I had a 2 teeth surgically removed Saturday morning and the extraction site is t!

Question:

I had a 2 teeth surgically removed Saturday morning and the extraction site is turning white,is this normal??

I am also concerned about food being trapped in the extraction site......I am allowed to brush and rinse lightly but rinsing is not removing the white stuff.....could it be tissue forming??? If it is food, will it become infected??? I am also still in pain, do you think thats normal for 48 hours after???Please help!

Answers:

White is normal for healing tissue. I think of it as callused, tissue that will be replaced by new tissue underneath. If the dentist didn't give you a plastic syringe go to the pharmacy and see if they'll give you or sell you one. You can gently irrigate the food out with it. Use salt water in the syringe or just rinse vigorously with it. Pain is normal to a certain level. If it is throbbing pain and keeping you awake it could be a dry socket. If you rinsed out to much, smoked, drank from a straw on that first day, a clot might not have formed. You will need to have the dentist put a medicated pack in the socket to aid healing. If the pain is just soreness, that is normal. Take anti inflammatory med. or the pain med. the dentist gave you.
