Head-Gear Problems!?!

Question: I have had braces for about 5 months now, and they just gave me head-gear. I can't sleep with it on, and it's verrrry painful to my jaw. (I have a bad overbite) How can I ease the pain and stay asleep?

I recommend you try Tylenol or Tylenol PM for the pain. Aspirin at night is not a good idea; it's bad for your stomach at any time, but particularly so if you then lie down to sleep.

Also, if there's a recliner in your house, try sleeping in the recliner for a couple of weeks until you get used to the appliance. You'll find you're more comfortable sleeping on your back in the chair (fully reclined), and you can use a neck pillow or place a pillow on each side of your head or torso to "nest" better in the chair.

Try taking some asprin before you go to bed. My sister had the same thing and she never had any problems with pain. It might hurt because it's not adjusted right so talk to your orthodontist about it.

just got my headgear off a few weeks ago wwoohhoo
you just have to deal with the pain for a couple weeks then you get used to it

I hate head gear! It is painful have a pain killer before bed and it should ease the pain.
Good Luck!!!

I wore a headgear for a year and got used to it after a week.

i had a very bad over bite.. and yes i know how it is its the worst..this is prob the worst thing you will get

honestly you would get use to it or at least i did
try sleeping on your back and not your side..
i also got lots of pillows stacked them up and slep on the edge of it......that way i can sleep on my side
theres allot of presure that comes off of it
and im sorry but remember it will all pay off..
a lot of pppplllll say that and i do too.
its true though

head gear etc you may want to contact your otho if its giving u a big prob

try takin an Aleve, and also if that doesnt work try taking a pain relieve with a sleeping aid in it, eventually you will become used to this and it wont hurt anymore... til then I would try to take either a pain med with PM in it, or aleve is great for dental pain
