How long will numbness after dental filling last?!

Question: I got a few fillings a few hours ago. The whole right side of my face was pretty numb afterwards, but now is even more numb. I can no longer smile with that half of my face (I could when I left the dentist though!) My gums themselves aren't really numb anymore, but my face is even more numb. I guess I'm just wondering how much longer I should expect the numbness.

Also, and this is the part that concerns me, it seems that I am unable to differentiate temperature on the numb side of my face. My tongue isn't really numb anymore. I tried to eat some ice cream and it was really strange - the left half of my tongue knew it was cold...the right half thought it was hot! I tried to eat something warm, and it was the opposite! Same goes with my lips. It's the strangest thing. Any ideas?

Im a dental assistant and it just depends on the type of numbing medicine they used, usually it will only last 3-4hrs and will gradually be losing the effect. Dont worry it should forsure be gone by 8hrs.

It should only last a few hours, but when I've had a lot of dental work done, it has lasted up to 4 or 5 hours!! Very weird sensation, i know..... Some people are just more sensitive to it.

You probably want to contact your dentist, or maybe the hospital if you are worried about it. That doesn't seem too normal...usually for me numbness only lasted a few hours at most.

The numbness on you face will last for a bout an hour. When it gets even more numb it means that the numbness is about to fade. I know the feeling had to get the same thing done to both sides of my mouth.

minimal 30 min

It depends on the anaesthetic used. My dentist uses one that dissipates after a couple of hours.
