Has numbness of the mouth, after seeing a dentist, ever lasted five days?!

Question:

Has numbness of the mouth, after seeing a dentist, ever lasted five days?

I recently experienced a horizontal break, accounting for half, of the last molar on my bottom jaw (my left side). I went to the dentist and had a temporary crown placed over the molar. It has now been five days and my mouth is still numb. Two hours after the dentist the overwhelming numbness subsided. Two days later I began feeling flashes of a less severe numbness in the affected area. Today, five days later, I feel a slight but constant numbness in the entire (bottom) left quadrant of my mouth. It is not as intense as the novicane shots adminstered by the dentist, but I can feel a difference a slight numbness when compared to the right side of my bottom jaw. Is anyone a dentist out there? Or has any one experienced the same thing? I'd really appreciate any help. I'll be calling my dentist tomorrow, but if there is anyone out there I'd like to hear from you. Thanks.

Answers:

Yep...I'v had this happen to me. When I called and asked them, they said that sometimes when the dentist give you the shot to numb you, they get just alittle too close to the nerve, and it "sleeps" longer than usual. They said it could even be a couple of "months!"....fortunately, it was only 2 weeks, and then a week or so of very mild numbness. But, that's what it is. Just alittle to close to the nerve. There is nothing they can do for it, you just have to put up with it.
