What is the best way to prevent mouth ulcers/canker sores?!

Question: I get ulcers aka canker sores in my mouth all the time. I get one, it goes away, then the next day another comes up. My doctor gave me apthasol with makes them go away, but do any of you know of a medicine that will prevent them? Or atleast do better than apthasol?

You usually cannot prevent them. They are brought on by a virus in your body. Sometimes you can get them when you have been or will be sick, as your immune system is not in full force. Other than that, keep your fingers out of your mouth and rinse with warm salt water 2-3x a day.

Organize is correct, they are also brought on by stress--are you stressed much of the time??
You can also rinse with hydrogen peroxide a few times a day - after you eat. (helps to whiten your teeth too)
Good luck!

It could be the sodium lauryl sulfate ingredient in your tooth paste. This is the foaming agent. The harshness of this chemical has been proven to cause microscopic tears in oral tissue. Try a toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulfate such as Arm and Hammer Toothpaste, Tom's of Maine, Rembrandt,or Biotene. Avoid lip or cheek biting, rough foods like chips and pretzels, and even over zealous brushing. Even stress can cause canker sores.
