Huge overbite?!

Question: I have a huge overbite and I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of process I will have to to through to fix it? Also a price guesstimate?

Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 20 years and braces are not the answer. Ths procedure for doing this is a surgical one that can only be done in the hospital. There are two ways to do this. Reduce the upper jaw or increase the lower. It all depends on what will look the most natural and make you happy. Often ins. will pay for this. The bones in the jaw are separated and either bone/artifical prothesis is added or taken away to increase or decrease the jaw size. The procedure has an immediate result and the patients are thrilled. Of course there is tremendous after care steps to follow and braces to re-aline the teeth into occulsion with each other. This is well worth it. I have had patients with little or no lower jaw and cried when they saw the results. Same with protruding upper jaw. See an Oral Surgeon and have a conference with him and a good Ortho. Good luck, you will love you new look. ~M

I have one too.
The dentist said It shouldn't be a problem till I'm 30, so hopefully by then I'll be rich enough for whatever they are going to do... rip my jaw out, whatever it is.

I had the same, they break your jaw "reposition it" you basically have surgery and it is a long painful and exspensive process 5000+

A mouth brace you have to wear at night.
Or teeth pulling (depending*)
It depeneds on your dentist/surgeon and what insurance you have

Have your teeth checked at an orthodontist. You most likely need braces, which can cos anywhere between $5,000-$7,000.

I had a huge overbite too - my parents got me braces when I turned 14 or 15 (after the dentist ok'd it). Before the braces went on, they had to pull one tooth on each side of my upper jaw. I had them for 2 years.

There was no talk about breaking my jaw. I remember them saying that I could have surgery, but still wind up with braces only to cut off 6 months of wearing braces.

Braces or a thing called Invisalign will fix it, ask your dentist to refer you to a good orthodontist!

i had braces and they did not fix my overbite. the ortho told me i would have to have my lower jaw cut on both sides and spacers installed to lengthen my jaw. i would also have to have my jaw hinges redone to make sure the new jaw would align fine. supposedly it would greatly reduce my tmj issues too. that was about 13 years ago. i did not do the procedure because i was too active at the time and couldn't chance getting hit in the jaw after the procedure. now i'm skirting 30 and thinking about going and getting it done finally. i wish i had years ago.
