Question: i just got my braces on yesterday! im afraid to brush them hard though! if i dont brush them hard enough will they turn yellow or can i just brush softly and use the "christmas tree" brush they gave me? i know that you are suppost to brush your teeth hard and stuff but im worried something will fall off?!?!?!
thanks in advance!

nothing will fall off, trust me. brush at a 45 degree angle.
i just got the springs too! it also hurts for me, so i use wax that i got from the orthodontist. you soon develop this certain kind of tough gum that will protect you.

Nothing should fall off. Brackets and bands placed properly should not fall off with regular oral hygiene. If something does fall off, just go back to your orthodontist and he or she will just bond the bracket or band back on. No big deal. You should brush as usual, but remember to use a soft tooth brush. Remember to continue flossing and that can be frustrating after awhile so I usually recommend a water pik. Congrads on your path to straighter teeth.

Yours brackets will not fall off even if you use your electric toothbrush really hard! I advise brushing your teeth as regular and then go back and use the christmas tree brush to go between the brackets. Your teeth are soor right now so you might not want to use an electric toothbrush!! After you brush, use the blue things that you hook the floss up to to floss, or tighten the ends of the floss up to floss! Remember to always use the rinse your orthodontist hopefull gave you! For the springs, I don't know. I don't have any springs to hook on my braces! And for gum, Sugar free is fine to chew! I really hope this helps!

when i had mine i just brushed exactly the same as i had before braces, but after the normal brushing i would brush in circular motions around each bracket and get underneath the wire as well. and if something DOES fall out, it's because they didn't do their job right...not your fault!!
i believe it's Oral B that sells awesome floss for braces, the end is stiff so you are able to get between the tooth and wire so you can still floss!!

as far as the scratching of your gums...did your ortho give you any wax? if not, they sell orthodontic wax. you roll a bit into a ball and place on the part thats hurting you.

good luck!! :-]

Just brush like normal. Be sure and brush your gums downward and upward too. Don't worry about your brackets or wires, they shouldn't be coming off. They really glue that stuff on.
Use a normal toothbrush. The christmas tree brush is for touchups and for getting food that's caught between the brackets more easily.
I'm not sure what the springs are for. I had those as spacers, but they took them out when I got my braces on. Try putting some wax on them so they won't irritate your mouth too much.
