How bad does it hurt to get a shot in your mouth at the dentist?!

Question: I need to go to the dentist because i think i have my first cavity. I haven't been in a long time so i'm nervous. What does it feel like and how bad will it hurt if they were to give me a shot in my mouth. Is there any alternitive because i have bad anxiety problems. Please help! I'm scared!

There is the possibility that you can be sedated prior to your dental appointment. Ask the dentist. There is also something out there call laser dentistry. They don't use traditional filling unless it is absolutely necessary. I don't think they need to use pain killers at all. If things are really bad, you may be able to put under during your dental procedure too. There are ways if you really want to do it.

To answer your question about pain: That is so subjective that you'll get different answers from everyone you ask. To me, it's a 7 on the 0-10 scale. The thing I keep thinking is that it only lasts 1 - 1 1/2 seconds! VERY short time discomfort and it's over. The more you think about it, the worse you can make it for yourself. Just remember the time frame. The discomfort is VERY SHORT DURATION.

it kinda hurts.... it makes ur eyes water, but nothing to bad, like any other shot

C`mon now. A little sting and watery eyes won`t kill you.

ive had it done abot 10 times. it hurts a tinyy bit like a little pinch its not nothing to worry about.but i must warn u its kinda wierd b.c u can feel the novocaine flowing through your gums. but seconds later your numb.

Depends on where they give you the shot.... it's not too bad though.

Bring some music to listen too, close your eyes and put your headphones on..... it'll be over before you know it!

Maybe you could ask your dentist about nitrous oxide (laughing gas)? This should help relax you before they give you the shots...

Good luck!

The shot typically feels like a pinch on your gum......If your Dentist has a gentle hand, in my experience at times I haven't felt it the injection....if it isn't a deep cavity there's this numbing gel known as oraqix it's painless needle-free numbing agent used that possible your dentist can offer you if they work with it...it will cost you a bit extra but it's worth it

I have had 3 cavities filled and they were caught early enough that they didn't even start hurting me. The dentist did all the work while I was right there, no sedation or pain killers necessary. I didn't hurt and was not even uncomfortable.

Well, getting a shot in your mouth is not cool... but the dentist may give you happy gas, esp if you ask for it because you are scared and they apply a numbing gel before you get the shot, so it hurts a lot less than it could. I hate needles too but its so much better not to feel the cavity being filled... as far as i am aware there is no alternative to stop you feeling any pain at all. good luck

the first one hurts. i won't lie. i usually just squeezes the hygenists hand till its over. it pinches. and they will tell you that. they might beable to give you laughing gas and then the shot. my mom loves that stuff when she goes to the dentist. but just relax once they get the first one in there you won't feel a thing. they usually have to give me 2 or 3 since i'm really sensitive.

A needle in the roof of your mouth NEVER feels good. That said, they are seldom required.

The comfort of the needle is dependent upon the skill level of the dentist. Some give painless injections all of the time, others couldn't give a painless injection if their life depended on it.

If yours gives a painful injection, ask your friends and family what their dentists are like. It could be time to move on. Injections DO NOT HAVE TO HURT.

it doesnt hurt at all, it seems like ti would and ts really is a mental thing, but the dentist will rub a gel novicane in your mouth about 45 sec b4 the shot if you ask, but it really feels more like a presure then a pick, hurts less then getting it in the arm.

DON'T WORRY... it is just feels like a pinch. At worst, you may just get watery eyes. dont stress over it!

think of a pinch

well my DR shakes my upper lip wen he gives my shot and i dont feel a thing.. it makes it REALLYY numb after, i kinda like it.. and I hate pain, so its not bad at all

its much better then a bad toothache
