My daughter had straight teeth, but a pretty good sized gap between the 2 front. Her braces closed the gap up in a matter of weeks. Of course if she were to get them removed now, the teeth would probably move right back, but she is so thrilled at the progress.

Less than a year if the Dr. tightens a lot.
don't worry it'll go away. at least you're not like me when i started-complete opposite (mine were terribly overlapped!)
just an headsup, if ur gonna get braces eat the foods you love before you get them on if u dont ur gonna miss them so bad for a couple of weeks... for the time it is going to take, your ortho would give you and estimate but it usually turns out less than the time they tell u so..
