Post root canal pain/infection...?!

Question:

Post root canal pain/infection...?

Monday I had a root canal on #19 (lower left molar) and the proceedure went well. Tuesday I had minimal discomfort. Wednesday I woke early with servere pain and a abcess/boil on the cheek side of my gumline. By Wednesday night it had burst and the pain subsided a bit. I took lagesic and ibuprofen which really helped with the pain. Friday morning the same area had filled again and began to drain again.

I went back to the dentist today (Friday) who then prescribed vicodin and penicillin. It's now after hours and the weekend (no way to get a message to the dentist) and the area seems to be filling yet again and the pain is horrible - I have a high tollerance for pain typically. I took the vicodin with ibuprofen (ok'd by dentist and pharmacist) over 2 hours ago and it hasnt made a dent in the pain.

I'm taking colloidal silver & zinc to boost immune system.

Any suggestions on pain relief/speeding the drainage and healing process?

We do not have an emergency dental clinic in the area.

Answers:

The abscess/boil is an area of infection. Since you haven't been on the antibiotic more than a day, it hasn't nearly had sufficient time to start working. Just keep taking the vicodin as needed. Between try Advil and Tylenol. You should begin to see some improvement by Monday. Just keep the area as clean as possible. Perhaps try some Campho Phoneic (Sorry, I forgot how it is spelled). It is over the counter and your pharmacist should be able to point out where it is located.
