Is dental scaling bad on teeth enamel?!
Question: I had a consult with a dentist a few days back. I already suffer from flurosis (attributed to the mineral-rich water I used during my childhood). In addition to that she felt that I had a lot of dirt in my tooth and suggested dental cleaning..
I am just wondering if dental cleaning could be harmful for my teeth. When I surfed net, I got results saying that the effect of cleaning remains for atleast a week (in the form of sensitive tooth, painful gums etc). Will scaling remove the enamel cover of my teeth?

Depending on the degree of your flurosis the treatment is different and if it is not a severe type ..it can be treated by usual methods of bleaching and using a pumice powder plus Hydrochloric acid 18% and if not available the dentist can use the same Acid-ache component that uses for composite fillings...
Scaling is considered as a treatment for removing calculous and dental-plaques and it is under the category of Periodontology ...and accroding to diagnosis of your dentist it can be used to remove the stain and calculous from your teeth...i recommend an additional bleaching method....
if the scaling is done properly and in its correct way it doesnt have any effect on enamel...but usually scaling and rootplaning cause some sensitivities on teeth and gums that is not an important problem and it gets better in couple of days...
