Teeth extraction - gauze. Please answer it's urgent!?!

Question: I just had a molar extracted half an hour ago and they told me to keep the gauze in for at least 15 minutes. 25 minutes later, I've taken the gauze out, but I don't know if I need to replace it, because it's hard to tell if the wound is still bleeding. I don't want to keep the gauze in for too long because I want a blood clot to form as soon as possible.

How long should I keep the gauze in for if the dentist said 15 minutes, but people with wisdom tooth extractions on here are saying 3 days???

Some oozing will be normal. You really only need to keep the gauze in for that 15 minutes or so to stop the bleeding. Swallowing shouldn't affect things too much. Just don't do anything that requires sucking (like smoking or drinking through a straw), and remember that alcohol and aspirin thin the blood. You also won't want to drink or eat anything really hot like tea or soup because the heat will expand the blood vessels and possibly cause more bleeding. If you feel that you are bleeding a little more than expected, moisten a regular tea bag and gently bite on that instead of the gauze. The tannic acid in the tea is a natural blood constrictor and should stop the bleeding. =)

if you cant tell if its bleeding, you are safe to take the gauze out..

you would know if it was bleeding or not

I took it out as soon as I did not feel any bleeding in my mouth. About 20 minutes , I would say.

if your still bleeding when you spit and a lot of blood keep the gauze in for a couple more minutes.
