My dentist wants me to visit 5 times to do root canals?!

Question:

My dentist wants me to visit 5 times to do root canals?

I broke the second molar after many fillings. ( I am 54)

The total number of visits to the dentist, by the time I get the crown done, will 9 times.

Just doing the root canals will take 5.

I think she is doing two canals. I am about half way through. Lately she seems to take a long time checking the continunity or presenence of the nerve, with a device called "Root Ex".

It makes a beeping sound when she pushes it deep into the tooth root. Do you know what she is doing here?

She gets partly paid by the government, (I am in Korea) and as the internet says two or three visits to get a root canal, i wonder why it takes 5 plus three more for crown.

How many visits does a root canal take?

Half the tooth is more or less shot, and I have no idea if she will do two or 4 roots.

She doesn't speak any english.

I am not sure if she is just meticilous about her work, or is trying to get more money with lots of visits.

What do you think?

Answers:

The Root-EX device is used to determine the length of the root canal. The dentist is using it to determine how deep she needs to go with the cleaning files so she does not "blow open" the opening at the end of the root (which would be bad), which would happen if one goes too deep, and fail to hold a seal.

I think she's just being meticulous, then again I don't know if they charge by visit over there in Korea or not.. Here in the U.S. they charge by procedure, not by number of visits.

Hope this helps.
