Abscessed tooth number 30?!

Question: I have an appointment next week for an extraction of tooth 3, 14 & 30. I went to the dentist two months ago and was given an antibiotic and was told could get the teeth pulled until my insurance oks the procedure. Well I did have an abscess on tooth #30, which had busted about a month ago - taking ampicillin at the time. Now I have a lump again on jaw. How could this happen when I took antibiotics and it busted? Do I need to be on antibiotics again before I get the extractions done next week? Tooth #30 broke about 4 years ago and I never did anything about it until now. Can anyone help me with any answers, also does anyone know which antibiotic is best since I have already take 500 mg amoxicillin. Thanks :)

If there's swelling, like the lump, then yes, keep taking antibiotics! If you aren't allergic to penicillin, then that's stronger than what you're taking now. Definitely get back on antibiotics BEFORE having your teeth pulled. It's called pulling them "hot" and it can be EXTREMELY painful and has a great chance of infection which can spread throughout your system and allow poison to get into your system. I had an abcess before and it busted, but the infection came right back. See the dentist again and have him give you stronger antibiotics. You have to take them religiously! Good luck.

Yep, you need more antibiotics, Erythromiacin is usually the best one to take for dental infections, but ammox. will do as well. The knot is back, because the area is still infected. Don't worry...call your dentist, and let them know...keep taking the amox all weekend. Never stop taking any medication, especially antibiotics, until you are finished with them.
