Is there something wrong with my wisdom tooth extraction?!

Question: I had three teeth pulled four days ago (Thursday), and was told by everyone about the type of pain I would experience, and that it should go away within a day or so. Friday, I was sore but feeling fine enough to switch from Vikodin to Ibuprofen, Saturday I felt almost normal. Saturday noon, I don't know what happened, but the pain came back in ridiculous proportions. I took more Vikodin to sleep, but as soon as it woreoff I'd be right awake again, when I lean or turn my head to the side I feel pressure on the sutures, I'm getting nauseated, I can't open my mouth... It's terrible- is this normal? I can't get in touch with the oral surgeon, because this is a Sunday, but something seems wrong here.

If this is normal, I don't mind waiting it out, but everyone talked like I'd be back to my old self in 48 hours or so.

hiya...it depends on the type of extractions you had...if your teeth were impacted then some people have pain and swellings for upto a week after the extraction.if you have a bad taste in the mouth where the teeth have been removed and mild fever and nausea, the extraction socket probably is infected-hence the pain.dont worry too much.call your doctor immediately monday if the pain continues or if you have fever.keep taking pain medication as prescibed.gargle with warm salt water once in every 2 hours.this will be soothing and also if there is an infection will keep it localised.use a mouthwash after brushing as well.hope u get well soon.. :)

Could be, I know I ended up with Lock jaw, and a dislocated jaw from mine. However I was young didn't go back because I was told that its supposed to happen. I would contact the dentist. Get a second opinion if you have to.

yeah. some people have more pain than others..like when I got braces, the doctor told me the pain would last like 4-5 days, since its average, but my pain went away after 2 weeks. It's really nothing. Any pain in the mouth will go away depending on each person.

I would advise that if the pain gets too ridiculous go to the emergency room, Although i would like to point out that last april i had mine extracted- made an emergency appointment for my oral surgeon as had similar symptoms to those you describe and was told this was perfectly normal. Some of my stitches came out really early too which i was told wouldnt happen. The reason i went to get checked out is because like you i was told i would be fine but was in severe pain and usually i'm not one to complain.

I dont want you not to seek advise based on my experiences though but just wanted to let you know and like i said if it gets to much go get it checked out.
