Should I get a second opinion?!

Question:

Should I get a second opinion?

I took my seven year old daughter to the orthodontist for the first time. They are saying she needs an expander for 7months,then a lip bumper for about 6 months, and then an arch wire for about the same amount of time. And then she may need braces after that. Her teeth look fine just a little out of line. Should I wait until all of her permanant teeth grow in, to see how they line up,or would that cause more damage than good? Should I get a second opinion?

It's the first time she's been to the orthodontist not the dentist. And they quoted me a price it was going to be over $2500.00 does that sound high?

Answers:

Even as a dentist myself I often recommend that one of my patients get a second opinion. Dental care is just as expensive and important as medical care and should not be taken lightly. When in doubt always get a second opinion.
