In order for the crowns to be made, your teeth need to be prepared, we call this a "prep" and it's pretty straight forward.
The teeth need to be drilled down so that the crowns will fit,
a mould is taken of your top jaw so that the dental lab will know exactly which teeth are to be crowned, a second mould is then taken of your lower jaw, this is so the dental lab can make sure that your upper/lower meet are in alignment and a 3rd mould is often taken so that temporary crowns can be made for you to wear whilst your permanent crowns are being made.
The temporary crowns can be made at in the surgery so there is no need for these to be made by the dental lab.
After about a week and a half you go back to the dentist and your temporary crowns can be removed, the dentist will try the crowns and make sure that they fit and that you are happy with the shape and colour, if they need any adjustment this will be done before they are fitted.
Once the dentist is satisfied the crowns can be cemented on using a dental material designed for cementing crowns/bridges etc!
