Tonsil stones? Help I am grossed out...?!

Question: I have just discovered that I have tonsil stones!! I only have one "cave" and have dug two stones out of there in two weeks! Ugh!! Short of getting my tonsils removed, is there anything I can do to prevent them? Does anyone have a better way of getting them out (beside sticking my finger back there...ugh). Thanks in advance!!

Well, there are many options available to you, and they are all unique. I suffer from the same malady, and have yet to try a method other than picking them out . About everything I'm going to tell you can easily be found through the link below, I'm basically summarizing. In terms of prevention, you should look to your diet. I notice that when I limit the amount of milk and sugar I ingest, I seem to get fewer of them. A more direct method is to get lazer surgery to smooth the tonsils so that these stones won't form as readily. The most extreme way to prevent them is to completely remove your tonsils. I don't recommend this because your tonsils are part of your body for a reason. In terms of removal, if you have a flexible tongue, you may be able to push them out that way. Also, there's an instrument called a "water pick" where a water jet can dislodge the stones. Drinking water fast can help too. Finally, you may be able to suck them out, although this can leave a bad taste. I'm sorry for the lengthy response, and hope I was of help.

Using a clean Q-tip. I've also heard of people using the curved end of a bobby pin Also what seems to help is gargling with warm salt water.

my sister had this problem too. she didn't ever figure out how to get rid of it, but she would clean them out with clean q-tips. you might want to use peroxide to clean them out. or see a nose and throat doctor. good luck!
