Dry socket? you be the judge.?!

Question:

Dry socket? you be the judge.?

Ive had SEVERE pain in my mouth where they pulled my wisdom tooth for the past couple days. I went in Tuesday and the dentist cleaned it out with a syringe, then he packed it with some gauze with medicine in it. I went back today for horrble pain, and he did the same thing, because he said the pack fell out. Does this mean I have dry socket?

All i know is that im in severe pain! The stuff they put in my mouth has given me a HORRIBLE taste and it smells really bad...other than going to the dentist, what can I do to help relieve the symptoms...(pain and swelling). Do I need to keep rinsing with salt water? Can I still eat?

Also, I went to the dentist today, he packed the area, so we'll see. I cant see the white thing he put in there, but im guessing its still there, because its leaving an AWFUL taste in my mouth.

Answers:

It does indeed sound like a dry socket to me, but I can't see your extraction site. Take some Motrin or Advil. That will help with both pain and swelling. Keep the area as clean as possible. Sure, eat what you can tolerate. Generally, soft foods would be best; mashed potatoes, Jello, etc. Call the Dentist and tell him you'd like to be seen again.

Good luck!! I know dry sockets suck!
