My wife's dentist cracked her tooth when he put in a filling. Now they want us to pay a rediculous amount of mony to do a crown since the tooth is cracked. Shouldn't the dentist fix the tooth for free since he caused the crack?

I am not totally sure of the circumstances from your question but it is likely that the tooth was already weak when it cracked. Dentists will usually try to do the least invasive thing and sometimes it doesn't work and then you have to move on to plan B. it doesn't mean the dentist caused it to happen. If you don't trust him the you should go to another dentist.
