Wisdom teeth? OW!?!

Question: I'm 18 and one of my molars is growing in. It is really uncomfortable. I'm pretty sure I have enough room for it, but how long will it take to finish? Are there any adult teething rings? LOL and does putting whiskey on teeth make it better?

ASlso, when will the other three start to grow in? How many years does it take molars to finishe growing?

You're better off seeing a dentist asap than just assuming there's enough room. If it needs to come out, you can get it pulled before there are too many complications.
When mine grew in, I figured there was enough space. Three years later (I didn't bother to get them checked), I end up with a wicked tooth infection that landed me in the hospital. It was crazy-painful, and expensive. And because I waited so long, there were complications when I finally got them out.

It can take a while for those buggers to grow in. Mine all finished somewhere around 2.5 years after they started. They grow, stop for a while, grow, stop for a while..etc. But it's different for everyone. You may take less or more time.

I tried the whiskey thing (a dab of whiskey on a piece of gauze tucked into the mouth where the tooth is). It helped me a lot with the soreness in my gums (from the tooth trying to break through), but Anbesol or extra strength Orajel worked just as well, and I think they worked a little longer as well. I've also heard that using whiskey or anything like that can rot your teeth (not sure how true it is). As for the aches and pains caused by growing teeth, whiskey does nothing. Use Advil or Motrin. I used Advil, but when it got really bad, extra strength Motrin worked the best.

Hope that helped.

sometimes wisdom teeth grow in bad. you should just go see a dentist and have him check. my teeth are nice, but for soem reason, my right one grew in rotten! you couldn't see but it evidently was. sometimes they push your teeth and shift them and i had all mine pulled, which wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. and to answer your question how long does it take, it could take a while because they can go in and out and stop and then start again. it IS painful. take ibprofien for the pain and swolleness. go see a dentist though- really!

I don't really know when it will finish growing. I don't know of any adult teething rings , hehe. And as for whiskey, I haven't a clue.
As for the number of wisdom teeth you have. Not all people have 4. I only had three.
Some people have impacted teeth, that is they don't grow through the gum. And they can also mess your teeth up.
I waited for years to get mine out. I finally did it, and it wasn't near the big deal that i thought it was going to be.
It wasn't bad at all.

I was so scared to have mine out and they weren't bothering me...then at age one grew in and two of the others started to cause me a lot of grief. The fact is you never know if they will grow in at all - even if one does it doesn't mean the others will. They may grow all the way in....or not. It could take months....or a few years. And there's nothing to say that even if they don't bother you now that they won't later. Make an appointment to see your dentist and get some advice from him/her on how you should proceed (or not). P.S. The dental surgery wasn't as bad as I thought :)
