Toothache from a filling?!

Question: i got a 3 surface filling on the last tooth of the top of my mouth on the left side.....the dentist told me that the cavity was so deep he was surprised not to see any pulp as he was drilling....well anyways its been close to 4 weeks now and the pain has dropped quite dramatically....but there are still some instances where i have pain pushing on it with the side of my cheek....is this normal? I dont have insurance so i cant get the root canal...so im thinking about having the tooth extracted? does anyone know the cost of this w/out insurance

Give it more time, it may calm down. If the filling was real deep toward the pulp it is not a matter of if the tooth needs but rather when. There is also a possibility that your tooth may have developed a crack and require a crown. If your dentist placed a bonded composite filling that is good because should you decide to crown it then the composite will make a good substructure. If your tooth doesn't calm down in another 8 weeks or so then have your dentist check to see if it has developed a crack. Don't have it pulled unless you have no other choice.

If you have the tooth pulled you need to have a replacement so the rest of your teeth don't loosen up and start to go also. The root canal may cost a lot, but it is worth it in the long run. I had to get a credit card so I could get a root canal last year because I have no insurance.

my bf just had this happen to him, we have an awesome dentist and sometimes if you dont have coverage your dentist can give you a deal. we only spent $200 for his extraction, that was the freezing, gauze, and the stitches as well. good luck, i hope you haev a nice dentist :)

i swear id rather give birth any day than have teeth problems !! i dont have n e insurance either n i paid $275 to have my tooth cut out !! i tell u what though for me orajel n anbesol just werent doing the trick for me n i found that putting an essential oil mixture called thieves on my pain worked better than ANYTHING that i tried (which was a lot). Thieves is a blend of the essential oils clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus, n rosemary
