when i got that done before they used a needle, it hurts for a second but then the numbness kicks in. it feels like a sharp pain wherever it is applied.

Not all fillings require anesthetic (numbing medicine). Smaller ones can be done without any.

But for those that do, basically, it feels like a poke (with a needle) and some burning that doesn't last very long. The burning is the worst part, but that basically means it's numbing your nerve, and it goes away quickly. Once the burning stops, you shouldn't feel any more pain where they injected the medicine. You'll feel pressure--i.e. you'll be able to tell they're doing stuff in there, but you shouldn't feel sharp pain.

They put numbing gel on the skin, then it feels like a small poke. Not bad at all. It feels warm and tingly.

half ur jaw gets numb, but it dont hurt

it stings for about 30 secs and then your mouth becomes completely numb it doesnt necessarily hurt but it isnt a cup of tea either
be sure not to bite your tongue as you wont feel it and might go straight thru it (this happened to my friend) but they will warn you in advanced

it does for me! ahh its like this stinging burning =[ i hate it
