Elastics&Braces!?!

Question: Okay, So... I got my braces like around Oct 15th?(It might have been a couple days before, but whatevs...) 2007. So, I've had them like 3 months I guess, as it is now Jan 15th 2008. And today I got elastics to wear on my braces. They're just like, one on each side in a diagonal line, from front/top to back/bottom (I hope that made sense...)

And they hurt soo much, but I just had them tightened, so Im HOPING it'll go away. But Ive been surfing yahoo answers for like an hour, and have read that the pain is FROM the elastics... which sucks. Will that pain go away? (my first question)

my second Q: I also read that when you get elastics, your braces are coming off soon, which totally cant be true because I havent even had mine a year...not even half of a year!! What exactly does getting the elastics mean (time wise. I already know that they make your bite/jaw/whatever move)

3rd Q: They said to change them once a day, and not to take them off when I eat. Why?? thanks!!

Lol. Aww, poor you.

This is coming from a 2-year brace...r. =D

1) It'll go away... eventually. =]

3 - 7 days for me, usually. Could be even less. How long have you been wearing it?

The pain is not completely because of the elastics: it's also because your teeth are "tightened" [as in they tight the metal wires that fixes your teeth and make it into that perfect round shape].

I'm wearing mine, too. It REALLY hurts the first day [all I could eat was soup stuff] but it's getting better now and hopefully I'll be able to eat some apples soon... xD

2. Not true. In some cases that is true, but I've been wearing mine for soooo long and I've been having my braces for 2 years!-- like, wow-- hence, the elastic are there to fix your overbite and to make your teeth align properly. They're very helpful and good for you actually. A little pain is totally worth it if it's for perfectly aligned, straightened, and hopefully whitened [you can get this done after you take your braces off] teeth, right? =D

[I'm still waiting for mine. Hopefully before summer. How long will you have to wear your braces for?]

3. That's... weird. Change 'em once and day and NOT to take them off when you eat? You should take them off when you eat. Did you add the "not"? Because it's hard to eat with two pieces of plastic on the side of your mouth, blocking the food entrance. Plus, forks and spoons and sporks really get in the way... and you should change them in the morning and in between meals and before you go to bed. Keep them nice and clean, please! =]

Good luck!-- and remember: You're getting braces for a healthy-looking and perfectly aligned teeth. Look good, and feel good, so bear a little pain, okay?

If you have any addition question, feel free to message me at tranvuphuongvy@hotmail.com.

=D

Good luck!

Yes the pain will go away. If you dont wear the elastics you have to wear head gear. And when you get elastics it doesnt mean your braces are coming off soon. I dont know why you have to change them once a day, but you CAN take them off when you eat because my friend has them and she is allowed to take them off when she eats

you should keep wearing them, the pain will probably go away. i wouldn't know, because i never wore mine. and i can't really answer your other question because i never wore mine. moral: you should wear them, because i still have a slight overbite. deal with the pain.
