White coating on tongue??!

Question:

White coating on tongue??

I'm trying to find out what's up with my tongue. The front is fine but a slighty white coating start at the middle and end at the back of my tongue. Is my tongue dried out or something? I think this is also causing bad breath. Any ideas?

Answers:

It might be thrush - a fungal infection of the mouth. Do a web search and check out the images and see if they are similar to what yours looks like. Thrush can be a recurring problem for people who have chronic illnesses or who take medications that impair the body's ability to fight infection (weakened immune system). Since these people have difficulty fighting infections, the fungus that causes thrush can spread throughout the body, causing life-threatening blood or organ infections. Medications that inhibit the growth of fungi (antifungals) are the standard treatment for thrush. These medications are either applied directly to the affected area (topical) or swallowed (oral). Check with your doc, and good luck!
