It's exciting because it's something new, and if your teeth are really crooked, it will change your looks for the better.
It's scary because I'm sure you are anticipating some discomfort.
It was quite a while ago when I had braces, but it's not that bad. The worst part is sitting still with your mouth open for so long! Actually having the braces put on is not a big deal. It's the tightening of the wires that causes the aches and pains in your jaw and gums. Motrin or Tylenol should take care of this discomfort without any problem.
At first, most orthodontists will give you wax to cover the braces in areas that are causing sores or scratching your lips----your mouth will get used to this and it won't happen after the first couple of weeks.
Ask your orthodontist any questions you have to calm your nerves a bit. Don't be shy about talking to the doctor, you have a right to know what is going on and what to expect. If it makes you more comfortable, ask them to tell you what they are doing at each step so that you know exactly what is going on. A good doctor should do this anyway!
Don't worry, it will be fine! Your mouth probably will be sore and you might feel some pain, but over all it won't be too bad. It will be a little hard to eat hard things for the first couple days, but after a while it will get better. Just make to follow your orthodontist's instructions. If you have to wear rubber bands, actually wear them. That way you can get them off as soon as possible. Good luck! And it's all worth it in the end when you get them taken off and you have beautiful, straight teeth!
Nothing to be worried about! It's painless putting them on. Make sure not to get the clear elastics around your braces...they'll turn yellow after a couple weeks, it looks pretty gross.
Well i currently have braces and they hurt. For some people it will hurt more than others. My give me bumps on my inside cheeks causing it to hurt more than my brothers and sisters. The main time that it hurts is when you first get it in and each time you tighten them. you should be fine though cause they give you wax type stuff to help with the irritation. Good luck.
Don't worry. I mean there's really nothing to worry about! They get annoying at times, but I usually don't really notice them. You can get cool colors if you want to, also. It will pull at first, but if you use numbing gel or pain reliever, you really won't feel anything. When they're tightened, it really doesn't hurt at all. After about half an hour it's just back to normal. You can also get wax if the wires are scratching or cutting.
