Dentist Prescribed me Cleocin (clindamycin- generic) for my toothache, question.!

Question: she said my tooth has an infection and that this antibiotic should knock it out. I have to take the liquid 4 times a day. I just got it today and have taken it two times so far. When should I expect to feel no pain or at least feel it's getting better? each time I take it I feel like my tooth hurts worse?? Please share your experiences with this antibiotic or something like it.

I had a root canal on this tooth twice :o( The last root canal was July 07' I don't want to get a third one if this antibiotic does not work.

Just taking the antibiotic is not going to completely get rid of the infection and prevent the need for another root canal. However, I think it's time for you to see another dentist since this will probably be the third root canal you will have to have on this tooth. Root canals are always tricky, but they are very expensive too and not a procedure people want to have to endure repeatedly. The antibiotic will help temporarily, but in the meantime, try to see a root canal specialist (endodontist). These particular dentists know how to handle tricky root canals and can most likely help you with this problem tooth better than your current dentist has. Make sure you take all of the antibiotic so the infection can clear up prior to a root canal because if there is a lot of infection there when they go in to do the root canal, it's possible that you may not be able to get fully numbed. Good luck.

If your dentist can't get the root canal right, it's time for a new dentist, IMHO. I feel your pain. Probably be a couple of days before you feel better. Sorry.

Your tooth should stop hurting tomorrow,If there is an infection though, you will need a root canal. The infection will come back once the antibiotics are stopped.
