What is needed to get rid of an overbite?

hi, i have an overbite (not anything major, but..) and i was wondering, is it a retainer that fixes overbites, and if not, what does? because I've been getting my teeth cleaned by my dentist and am going back to my orthodontist soon and I think we were planning on getting rid of my overbite (or wisdom teeth) next.. but my chin is growing i think (i'm 18) but i think my overbite is conflicting with it because i feel like stretching my jaw into the correct position constantly (just so it feels better).. thanks

and i've already worn braces, i got them off this year

everyone is diff. braces helped me.
