The left side of my jaw hurts?!

Question: Just below my ear, i think near where the two top part of the jaw and the bottom part of the jaw meets and it's swollen, but not badly swollen.

it doesnt hurt when i close my mouth but my teeth cant touch and it hurts when i chew, it hurt more when i was chewing a banana than an m&m.

it started out when i was chewing gum, and i havent for a while, and i havnt eaten anything yet at that time and then it start hurting when i was chewing, and if it was tired from chewing gum then why is just the one side sore?

thanks!

It could be a couple of things. First, it might be a sinus or ear infection. Generally your top teeth could be affected by pressure in your sinus cavity, see a doctor. There is also a nerve that runs where you are describing your jaw pain and that could be related to an ear infection following a bad cold or a sinus infection. The other possibility is you could have a problem with one or more of the roots in your molars. This would require you to see a dentist and possibly you may need a root canal. Either way I can sympathize, I think we all can. The pain is horrible and I'm sure that Tylenol or ibuprofen barely takes the edge off. Try a hot wash cloth pressed against your jaw and ear area to see if that helps. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Sounds like some sort of TMJ joint problem...go to the dentist.
