Question:

My dentist was doing a root canal on me and a piece of the instrument broke into my gums, they said thiswas no

and I would need to see a spelcialist to get it out (AT MY EXPENCE) I cannot afford this and think that they should have to pay as now about after 2 months it is starting tohurt like a SOB...I cant even sleep at night cause it hurts. They gave me a temporary crown but it broke off and now I have a broken exposed tooth cause I cannot afford a real crown...I dont know what to do, cause the pain is making me dizzy and my heart hurt.

Answers:

A file separating in a tooth is a common occurrence. It is not a sue-able offense. For the situation to be considered sue-able you would have to show neglect/malpractice/treatment below the standard of care, and that is not necessarily so, and they referred you to someone who specializes in this, so that is also proof that they did note a problem and refer you to someone who could possible rectify the matter. If your dentist was not able to finish the root canal he should not have charged you full price, only for the work he did. If you cannot afford a root canal with a specialist have the tooth extracted and move on. Let this also be a lesson well learned that root canals should only be done by the specialists that do this kind of work all the time, all day long and are most likely to do the best job.
I'm surprise that if you could not afford the root canal how could you expect to afford the crown?? A plastic temporary crown is just that, temporary and they will break easily. If there is a temporary crown placed to begin with your dentist was obviously expecting the need for a permanent one in the near future.
The tooth portion exposed is not an issue, that is not causing your pain. Get the tooth taken out and the sooner the better
