Baby tooth?!

Question: I have a baby tooth still (no adult tooth under it) and today it kind of was hurting me. Could I lose it?

When I got my braces 2 years ago my orthodontist said he'd leave it alone and hope it wouldn't fall out. But if it does fall out, will I need to get bottom braces again?

I'm 44 and still have a retained baby tooth. (no permanent tooth under it). Usually a retained baby tooth eventually loosens and you lose it. At that time, you can either get a bridge or an implant. They won't place the braces again to close the gap....that would throw everything off. If the tooth is out of occlusion (meaning that it's smaller than the teeth next to it) then you'll most likely retain a good root on the tooth and keep it for a long time. Your orthodontist made the correct decision to keep it. Hope that info helps.
