This is normal post op bleeding. Tylenol 3 doesn't always work. Call your doctor's office to see if they can call something else in. Do not take Aspirin or Ibuprofen as these are blood thinners. If you run out of gauze, moisten a tea bag. Works great! Are you placing an ice pack on 20 minutes/off 20 minutes? That's a must! Also, if you don't have an ice bag, use a bag of frozen peas. Just make sure you label it as an ice bag so no one attempts at cooking them. This can be refrozen many times and molds perfectly to any surface. Remember to put a cloth in-between any ice bag and your skin. Keep your head above your heart when you go to bed and put a towel on your pillow so you don't stain it. Bleeding is normal even into the next day. Remember it is mixing with saliva, so it looks much worse than what it is. Hang in there and no need to worry. Sounds like you're doing just fine.

Hi-
If it is still bleeding, I would contact your dentist and ask them when it will stop. I have found that GENTLY swishing COLD water can help stop my bleeding.

Hope it gets better soon!
Dana :-)

I have had several in my life. Yes, it will stop bleeding, but not the first day, at least not totally.
KEEP IT MOIST and keep the gauze in there....you do not want to get dry socket...it is by far the most painful thing, I'd rather break my leg!
So keep doing the rinses and keep gause on it.
(I did do the teabag bit...as mentioned in the post below..)
When you rinse be gental and don't spit too hard...it could open it up or dislodge the scabbing.
I did not take anything for the pain as pain killers have an adverse reaction for me...so your lucky you can at least have something....I know that is not much to offer..but the less pills the better. The pain will be less tomorrow...go to sleep early or at least try to..

Try biting on a used tea bag... orange pekoe will do... it has tannins which will help stop the bleeding

If it is just spotting blood, then it should be fine. If it is a noticeably large amount of blood, then you need to contact your dentist. My dentist has also told me I can take a tea bag, wet with warm water, and place over the gum area. This should help the clotting process. It does not matter which type of tea bag it is. If there is a constant burning and the blood continues, make sure you contact your dentist. It could be infected. Good luck.
