Dentist appointment in one hour, what should I expect?!

Question: I have an to leave in 30 mins to get a "deep cleaning." I've heard of this before but have never experienced it. (And from what I've heard, it isn't pretty.

What should I expect?

I guess I'm having last minute "jitters" LOL

A deep cleaning means you have calculus (tartar) under the gums. Some hygienists are gentler than others so you might be a little sore for a couple days but you will be healing, and its nothing a couple ibuprofens can't cure. And you'll be able to get a topical or local anesthetic if you need it during the procedure. Don't worry you'll be fine!

lol! aww! God will protect you! I am having teeth problems...I HATE IT. But i never had a deep cleaning...it sounds painful!

I remember returning with sore gums. Hopefully that one dentist just did a poor job on me. Other than that, it should be fine. Deep cleaning is nothing at all, try a root canal (which I had). Now that's painful! You'll be A-Okay!

I believe they numb you for it. but I've heard that basically what it is is they're going to clean out the crap down in your your gums.(usually people with the start of gingervitis or gum disease or smokers get this done). and your mouth will probably be sore afterwards but its not going to be like having a root canal or something like that..

it's not the most fun and there's usually some blood, but you'll survive. there are two types: a high-speed electric tool (an alternative attachment to the drill bit used for cavities) that the dentist runs over your teeth at the gum line. (or -- well never mind -- let's assume the first option applies. otherwise they would have warned you and the latter is called surgery.) you will have injections to numb you -- this makes it easier for the dentist as most people don't tolerate pain very well.

FYI -- I had just one side done as the copayment was high, and noticed no difference vs. the other side, so decided to forego the other side. many of these procedures are really unnecessary if you brush and floss well, don't smoke, etc, etc.

You will experience some pain. That's the inevitable. But they also got other ways to cure the max out jitters too. Have to pay a price for that one!
