What are the rubber bands for braces used for, and what would happen if i used 2 on one side instead of 1 on one side.

They are usually used to correct an over or under bite. The bands pull the jaw line to where it is intended to be. There are different strenghts of bands so use only one on each side as instructed by your ortho to avoid messing up you bite line.
