PLEASE TELL ME IF THIS WILL HURT! i had a bad bad expieience and am scared to death of what is gonna happen!!!

i am 16 and HORRIBLY AFRAID of dentists.... i had a bad bad bad expierience just last year...i origanilly went in for a exam.. then my mom consented to letting them extract one tooth...it was horribly infected they were even startled by the smell... they used laughing gas 7 shots of novacaine and the most soothing tones possible, but nothing could calm me down...that was the most excrutiating pain ive ever endured...4 women holding me down..my mom crying and saying she cant afford to take me to the hospital...eventaully they let me leave but they hadnt finished doing what they had done and left with pieces of tooth jammed in my gums... i cried all night until the next day when i had oral surgery..which couldnt have gone any better...exept i guess while i was knocked out the dentist talkd to my mom and extraced 2 more teeth than we bargained for ... i woke up with three less than i started with lol
I NEVER EVER WANT TO GO AGAIN...
but i have to..i need filling and a couple root canals

basically the question is...will a root canal and fillings hurt...my mom swears up and down that it wont but after what happened last time i highly doubt she knows much.... i really really am scared... i had that bad expiereice..prolly worse than child birth..but i wouldnt know cuz i dont have kids lol....please though reasure me so i can make it through this...im 16 and i shouldnt be afraid of the dentists!!!....

it shattered really bad cuz if was BAD BAD infected and they were trying to DIG it out...which hurt even more

Fillings are not bad hopefully you will have a better experience than your first. Getting a root canals are similar to fillings but a little more extensive and takes much longer. In both cases they will numb you up use a hand drill that will remove all the decay/ cavity then with the fillings they will replace the decay with a silver amalgam(filling) and build it and shape it like the tooth was originally. With the root canal after removing the decay they get to the nerve of the tooth and use little files to remove the nerve so it won't get infected or cause you pain again. Once they finish that they place filling in it and mold and shape it like a regular tooth. I know you had a bad experience with the other doctor, but you really need to calm yourself down before your appointment. I only makes thinks worse by having negative thoughts and feelings. Think positive and try to cooperate. If something bothers you make a little noise or move your hand don't get hysterical and jump and scream. It only makes the dentist and assistant less sympathetic to your feelings when you show out in front of other patients and act uncontrollable. Good Luck
