Have a root canal appointment on saturday, tooth hurting right now!?

my tooth has been hurting really badly, but now it feels different. before, if i just closed my mouth, i could feel my top set of teeth touch my bottom set of teeth evenly. Now when i close my mouth, i could feel that the top set of teeth touches the very back tooth on the left side first. WHAT IS GOING ON???

oh yea and one more thing, my bottom left tooth hurts really bad if i touch it, if i eat on that side, and when my tooth starts to hurt, my head starts to hurt.

This is the infection or abscess at the apex or root of the tooth; this has the tooth sitting “taller” or being “pushed up” due to the building fluids or pus in this area. You should call your dentist office; they will either get you in with an emergency appointment and open the tooth up or phone in an antibiotic and pain medication for you to start immediately. This needs to be addressed now since this can be very dangerous to your health. The pain will continue to become worse as the infection increases over the next few days without treatment, and this infection needs to be under control before the root canal therapy can be started if at all possible. The infection will block any anesthetic from working, which means it will be very difficult or impossible to numb the tooth for the procedure. Call your dentist and get the medications started today, you have enough time if you start them now for the antibiotics to work by relieving some of the pressure, pain and allowing the anesthetic to be effective for the procedure. Additional information: It sounds like you have the bottom tooth irritated by hitting it "first" with the abscessed tooth that is sitting "taller" in the socket. Try not to close your teeth together at all right now, you can cause trauma to the nerve of another tooth by hitting it too hard with this tooth. You can also take an 800mg dose of Advil or Motrin every six hours for the inflammation; this will help but does much better with the antibiotics. So call your dentist for the antibiotics and pain medication, you will be glad you did and your dentist will understand and appreciate it too.
