Braces Questions...?!

Question:

Braces Questions...?

Hey everyone! My Orthodontist Consultation went good yesterday. He didn't do anything. All we did was talk/ discuss just some of the information I'll need to know before I get my braces. I have to get them on the top and bottom.. ug! I'm happy I don't have to get any teeth extracted, though. I was a little scared about that, lol. Anyways, here are the questions I have. 1.)My next Ortho. Appt. (in a few weeks) will be the Appt. where they take X- Rays and Molds, what are they like? Does everyone need spacers? (My Ortho. didn't say anything about me needing spacers.) Finally, On the Appt. after they take X- Rays and Molds (third Appt.), is that when they put on my braces? Thanks to all so much who answer!

Answers:

1) the X ray isn't that bad. They just measure your height, put you against the wall and use this machine to take a picture of your head so they could make measurements of your skull and jaw. The orthodontist will use this information to make a specialized plan on how to fix your teeth. The mold can be bad or not bad, depending on the person. For me, it was a bit difficult having a bunch of goopy stuff being shoved in my mouth. Some of it went quite far back my mouth and I had a little 'throwing up' reaction without actually throwing up of course. It's just a normal body reaction to that stuff.
2) I think people who get braces all get spaces because they have to make sure your teeth are moved enough so that they could put a bracket thing around your back teeth. This is where the wire are hooked up and your back teeth will act as anchors. The spacers will make space for these brackets, which is why they are neccessary.
3) Every orthodontist is different. After all those xrays and stuff, when they feel you're ready and they have all the proper equipment, they will put the praces on. Some only do the top half of the jaw and later on the bottom. Some do both depending on your situation. I must warn you, getting your praces on the first day hurts like HELL and eating is very difficult. Your jaw will feel sore so only eat soft food. However, you will adjust to the pain after a few days. have some advil to numb the pain
