If you can afford it and if your teeth qualify for Invisalign, it's the better way to go. Not everyone can qualify for Invisalign, especially if you have teeth that need to be pulled vertically in order to be straightened out. They also won't use it in younger patients.
I had normal braces as a kid, didn't wear the retainer like I should and now have Invisalign as an adult. I also have gum problems. Invisalign lets me take great care of my gums and teeth — better than before I got Invisalign, because I have to brush and floss everytime after I eat and put the trays back in.
Insurance companies won't cover Invisalign like they do regular braces, but some companies will cover at least some of the cost. My dentist has been great about getting my insurance company to pick up more than they originally said they would.
Invisalign also will let you cut down on snacking because they can be just too much of a pain to take out and put back in all the time. So you'll lose weight, too!
