Dental problem-help please!!!?!

Question: Hi friends
I have 4 impacted teeth.Doctor asked me to get in to surgery.but as of now I don"t have money and it may take 2 months to arrange money for the surgery!!
But the problem is,2 holes or gap have been in that impacted site for a year now! and food debris collected there and I have started to get bad smell, some white deposit which is foul smelling!!.I am afraid i may develop some puss!!
Is there any ointment to apply there to avoid any puss formation or other problems developing in that area!!
until I arrange the money!!

I am a dental hygienist...and yes dentistry can be pricey. I would call around and find an oral surgeon willing to work out some type of payment plan. I would not wait. Other serious problems can arise from infections in the mouth.... Some People aren't aware that even heart disease and diabetes can be linked to gum disease. Food impaction in site can cause infection...for now buy soft toothbrush with small head, and gentle massage the area where the food is impacted to loosen it up, and then rinse with Listerine (not scope or other brands as listerine has agents that kill bacteria).I would get in as soon as possible.

try gurgling with warm salty water you can buy little tooth picks with little brushes on the ends that you can get into your teeth keep flossing too good luck

Brush the area like crazy, several times a day. Use Listerine or Crest Pro Health mouth rinse at least 2x daily - morning and especially at night. Also salt water rinse - 1/2 teaspoon of salt in about 8 oz of water - rinse and swish and spit out the water 3 to 4 times a day.

sounds to me like an infection... probably a gum infection but could also be an abcess under the tooth.

Either way, if you can, go to the doctors and get some anti-biotics to treat the infection... Anti-biotics should work for gum infection or abcesses.

That will only get rid of the imediate infection though... the damage to the teeth really needs to be fixed if you are to prevent this hapenning all the time.

The other problem you may have now (becasue of how long it's taken so far), there may be a lot of tooth decay in the broken teeth... Which will mean more cost to get them filled... and more likely they will need a root canal treatment.

Anyway, get some anti-biotics to clear up the infection, then make sure you brush well and use some anti-bacterial mouth wash (Corsodyl is a good one as it is designed to kill the bacteria, replace some lost minerals in the teeth and it also treats gum disease - You may have to ask the pharmacist for it as I don't think it's on the shelf).

Good luck!

Unfortunately, being wisdom teeth, they need to come out. If financial issues are delaying this, just have one done at a time. Sure, that's not the most convenient, but it's more affordable this way. Bacteria in your tissues will spread to the rest of the body and cause serious complications. Nothing over the counter will work. Most dentists will only prescribe antibiotics for a short period to ensure the patient goes for treatment. So get the most urgent tooth extracted as soon as possible and try to budget one every month..
