It takes about 8 years to become a dentist. To become a dentist in the US, you need to at first obtain a bachelor's degree (usually takes 4 years), and then apply for dental school (3-4 years). You can't become a dentist by merely applying to a tech school
A dentist makes, starting out, around 100,000. That can go up depending on where you work (nicer areas, more expensive treatment), and if you own your own office, you can make more.
As to how difficult it is to find a job, it depends on where you're willing to work, and what type of office you end up in (Medi-Cal, HMO, Delta, or private)
To be a dentsit takes 8 years, and you'd make over 100k a year...most dentists have their own ofice, so it would just be a matter of opening one up, not really "finding" a job.
