Question:
I just had a moler tooth pulled and the freezing had worn off and now my gums hurt like crazy.?
What should I take to deal with the pain?
Answers:
As a dentist I always recommend that my patients take Ibuprofen (Motrin). This will help ease the pain and also help with any inflammation. Also try using a cold compress, this will help numb the area and control pain. Be sure to follow all of your dentists instructions (no smoking, drinking from straw etc) to prevent dry socket. After 24 hours you should begin gentle warm salt water rinses to help prevent infection and to rid the socket of any food debris once you start eating. Good luck and if the pain becomes severe call your dentists emergency number or visit your local ER. Hope you feel better!
