Is Invisalign very painful??!

Question:

Is Invisalign very painful??

I'm curious to know how painful the process is. Also, if anyone who has had it can offer some insight on cost. I'm sure cost is dependent on severity so I would also like to know how long the braces had to be worn. I would really appreciate any information you could offer! Thank you! :)

Hi there...I'm wearing my Invisalign aligners right now and the only discomfort you may feel is when you switch to a new aligner just because it's a little tight to help your teeth move. Every 2 weeks you switch to a new aligner (your dentist will give you a few all at once so you're not going to the dentist's office every 2 weeks). The discomfort is really not too bad when you switch. I just started a new aligner 2 days ago and my teeth haven't hurt at all this time. When they do hurt, it's only for a couple of days and it's no different than when they tighten the wires on metal braces -- I had metal braces 20+ years ago and didn't use my retainer so I'm back in braces and that's how I know Invisalign is a lot better than the metal braces!

Also, you really do have to shop around for Invisalign pricing. I was quoted everything between $1700 and $6000 because Invisalign does not set the dentist's prices -- the dentists do. Invisalign does all the work, creating the trays, the computer models that show how your teeth are going to look and the dentist checks your progress but they're marking the prices up for the exact same work. So shop around is my best advice because I've been thoroughly pleased.

Oh, and I was a Full Case -- the very top of the line of the pricing chart, if that helps!

When I did get my quotes, I also got quotes for metal and ceramic braces and two dentists who do both metal braces and Invisalign offered a quote for both that was only $400 apart. I thought Invisalign would be outrageous on the price compared to metal but it seemed to depend on the dentist!

Good luck!
