Question about my wisdom tooth.?!

Question: I have a wisdom tooth on the bottom that has come in 1/2 way. The skin is still covering half the tooth and has stopped coming in. The skin is kind of flappy and it hurts underneath. I am afraid food is getting stuck under their. I just had a tooth extracted because of an abscess and I cant afford for that to happen again.

What can I do to fix this without a dentist? I try to gargle often with mouthwash and swab the tooth with a q-tip dipped in mouthwash.

If you have a regular dentist, ask them if you can get a monject syringe. This is a large syringe with a curved, plastic tip. You may be able to purchase one at the drugstore, but I've never seen them there.

If you get one, use warm saltwater OR a mixture of 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 warm water. Flush the area with this mixture...just don't swallow it.
If you can't get a syringe, you can still rinse with these solutions. Additionally, get a baby size toothbrush (soft bristles only!). As you brush, put the brush back there and close down slightly. This will allow more room for the brush to move around. DON"T avoid brushing because it is sore.

Eventually, you will need to get the tooth taken out. Wisdom teeth are prone to decay because they are so far back. Just take good care of it until you can afford it.

P.S. You can also take Ibuprofen for discomfort. It is an anti-inflammatory and will help better than Tylenol. You can use orajel or anbesol topically in small doses, too, but not long term.

Hope you feel better soon.

Ouch, mouthwash will just irritate it more! Just make sure when you are brushing your teeth, you get under the flap.

You have to be careful about gingivitis and cavities...is there any way you could get it taken out? I would make it a priority when you have a little extra money.
