Is this normal with cutting a new adult tooth?!

Question:

Is this normal with cutting a new adult tooth?

My son's front tooth is trying to break through the gum and the gum area around the tooth looks bruised and maybe blood underneath the gum. He had the baby tooth removed at age 4 and he is 8 now. Is this normal? I know I have to take him to the dentist.

Answers:

Since the tooth was removed at such a young age before it was probably ready to come out the gum has had time to heal. Normally a baby tooth is pushed out by the incoming adult tooth and the gums don't have enough time to heal entirely before the new adult tooth comes making it easier for it to come through. I don't think there is too much to worry about but I would take him to the dentist soon if it doesn't start to look better or if it is causing him a lot of pain.
