Will my jaw/mouth area eventually relax when braces treatment is finished?!

Question: I've had good luck with dental questions on this site so here's another. My jaw has recently been giving me problems about 1 year into this treatment. I got braces to correct an overbite (protruding teeth), but only because I was told that it was going to eventually get worse because I have a tongue habit of pushing my front teeth forward. I never felt any pain or discomfort, but now a year into treatment with rubber bands that are pulling these teeth back, I'm feeling reeeaally bad pressure in my upper mouth, and a feeling that my teeth/mouth/jaw area can never relax. Will this eventually get better and should I just continue wearing my bands as said by my doc? There seems to be less and less space for my tongue now too. Just a whole lot of pressure and discomfort in general, a lot of grinding, and not much relaxation. Fun, eh?

Any hope at the end here? I know they're trying to correct this overbite, but never had problems with it in the first place. Maybe it was natural?

Cheers

It's normal.. It happened to me when I had braces and rubber bands. Rubber bands pull your top teeth back and down, which does cause discomfort, and when I took mine out, it kind of felt like my mouth was rolling, it was so weird. But if you say that there is less space in between your top and bottom teeth, sounds like you are pretty close to the end of your rubber band treatment, which will let your jaw relax. Good luck.

I don't recall ever experiencing this when I had braces, but everyone's experience is a little different. If I were you, I'd definitely bring this up to my orthodontist (or whoever put your braces on). You don't want to go without your bands when the doc has told you to wear them. So it would be wise to ask.

I have braces too, and I have an over bite. Braces do suck so bad. It will keep feeling uncomfortable until the whole thing is over with so try and bare with it and listen to what the doc says and if you don't, they'll never be off!
