I have a question about a specific type of tooth pain. Help would be awesome.?!

Question:

I have a question about a specific type of tooth pain. Help would be awesome.?

Ok, so the deal is that I have one tooth, one of my lower front teeth, that I keep feeling a very quick (less than 1 second) shooting pain in. This happens about once every 5-20 minutes. It doesn't hurt when I bite down, or when I touch it in any way. It just randomly will have a shooting pain that goes away, like I said, in less than a second. I'm leaving on a 2 month vacation in about 10 days. I'm not sure what it is, or if I should be concerned. I'm pretty sure it is not a cavity.

Also I highly, highly doubt it is with the gums, especially on this specific tooth. It is the tooth that actually hurts as well. I'm only 21.

I do use whitening toothpaste, and now that I think about it, it didn't start until I started using whitening strips. That may have something to do with it. But still, it is only on one tooth.

Answers:

Before you go anywhere, have it checked out by a dentist, Even if you get prescribed antibiotics, that is better than ruining your vacation with a tooth that can worsen very quickly. There is nothing worse than being away with a bad tooth. Your age doesn't matter, except you'll heal more quickly being younger. (just saw your add. details...)

Are you using a whitening toothpaste everyday? Are you using a soft-bristled toothbrush? Do you drink a lot of sugary drinks? Are your gums around the tooth red or swollen?

At least request a PA (periapical) x-ray of the tooth to make sure there is no infection in your gums. Most dentist will take the fact that you are going out of town into consideration when they are looking at options for your treatment, if any.

Just because the pain goes away quickly, it doesn't mean you can ignore it. You asked because you were concerned, please get it looked at before you pack your bags!

Have a safe, fun trip....
