After getting a new braces wire, is it a good idea to chew gum to speed up pain !
Question: For those of you with braces, have you ever noticed that the soreness from a new wire goes away the more you put pressure on your teeth? It hurts at first, but it gradually gets better. So I was wondering, is this a good idea to do, or will it interfere with the wire's work by hindering the new positioning of teeth?

NO. Chewing gum has no correlation to pain relief. Soreness is due to inflammation caused by tooth movement. Gum chewing will only exacerbate the pain. To relief pain, take ibuprofen. Usually, soreness will go away in a day or two.
welli never listened to the rules, i chewed gum probably everyday, and i never broke a bracket, and when i had pain, i just took advil, and it wont interfer with the postion of your teeth
Works for me. Try it. Just be careful. Sugarfree won't stick to your braces.
