Having my wisdom teeth pulled?!
Question: I was just wondering how bad it hurts to have your wisdom teeth pulled. I will be getting all four pulled and will be put to sleep for it. I have never had a tooth pulled, let alone four and I have never been put to sleep before. I was just wondering what to expect, since I'm not a fan of the dentist(or orthopedic surgeon) and I'm pretty terrified just thinking about it!
I haven't made the appointment yet, but I'll probably be getting it done in the next month...

Well, it depends on whether or not they are impacted or not. Have the emerged from the gum or will they have to be surgically removed? I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed when I was 18. Two had emerged, two were impacted. The impacted ones were lying horizontal in the back of my jaw and creating terrible headaches and would have never come in properly, which is why I had to have them removed.
So, I was put to sleep and had to have stitches. Honestly, it was quite painful, but I had good pain medications. Once it healed, I was much better off because I no longer had daily pain from my teeth.
If they have all emerged, it won't be as complicated. Either way your oral surgeon will give you pain medication to help you manage afterwards.
If you have to have them removed, there is a good reason for it. Don't be terrified! Good luck!
Well my teacher just recently got her wisdom teeth pulled and she was put to sleep for it to. It will be painful after you get them done and if you are at a job or a student or something like that you should take 4- 5 days off. It will be swallon after awhile but yet your mouth will be better! O you should probaly get them done on a WED so you can get Thrus, Fri, Sat, Sun, and maybe Mon. You should use the weekend as some of your day off so you wont have to do alot of stuff left over.
It's really not that bad, but it depends if they are impacted or not. If they have already broken through the gums, then roots have formed significantly and that will cause more pain than if they were still under the gums (believe it or not). I had all four of mine pulled when I was 14 and they were impacted. The worst for me was when it was over, I was really thirsty and I drank some orange juice. Well, the orange juice soaked through the gauze in my gums and to this day, I cannot stand to drink orange juice because I remember the lingering taste of it in my gums!
I had my wisdom teeth pulled. You are asleep, and when you wake up, you can't talk cause you have all this gauze in your mouth. Your teeth bleed quite alot, and you can't really eat. You will need to eat soft foods for a few days. They give you pain medicine, but it always made me throw up. You might have a headache when you wake up. Be prepared to be sleepy, nausiated, and have a headache. Also you can not smoke, or drink from a straw, or do anything like sucking. It causes dry rot, which is the bone exposed to air and it hurts and could get infected. Good luck.
you will be a bit sore after, but it will not be too badd. you are doing it the best way to minimuze the fear and pain. orthopedic surgeons do the best job and being asleep it will be easier than being awake. just ask for some pain killers for the few days following and sleep lots for the few days following and you will be fine.
I have had the experience of having teeth pulled by the dentist. Only one was a permanent tooth though. Although I was not put out he had to give me a lot of numbing medication.
My friend had all 4 of his wisdom teeth pulled. They packed his gums to help with the bleeding and also gave him some medication for the pain. It will hurt for a while but the end result is worth it.
For about 4-5 days he ate nothing but pudding and jell-o. He also slept most of the time too. After 4-5 days he started eating things like mashed potatoes and some soft soups like tomato. It will take a while to be able to eat solid foods, and you will be "out" of it for a few days. I was at his house to check on him. I got there just as he was laying down. When he woke up a few hours later I was still there watching TV with his mom and he didn't remember me being there at all.
I am not trying to scare you with all this but I want you to have some idea of what to expect. That other answerer was right on in saying if you can schedule for a Thursday or even a Wednesday. That way two of your days off will be a weekend.

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled out when I was only 15 years of age. I had a general anaesthetic also. The pain I experienced was at times 10/10 and at other times 7/10. I had to take pain killers to help with the pain. My mother also pureed my dinner for me. so that I could drink it through a straw. Getting your wisdom teeth out is not all so bad. It is a very wise thing to have your wisdom teeth out (especially is you have had an OPG done and it has shown that the wisdom teeth are growing in all different angles).
You will be fine. Just make sure you are up to date on your medical history - including allergies, and also to notify the surgeon/hospital of all your previous treatments and allergic reactions to different medications, if this applies to you.
Just keep in mind that after you have had your wisdom teeth removed, you are then well on the way to recovery.
I was up and about 2 days later feeling fine. Recovery times are different for everyone, but if you just look after yourself, and rest for a day or 2, this will help alot.

Ive had 2 pulled out under local aneasthetic. The first one was very difficult, the dentist told me, took a long time and WAS quite unpleasant, the 2nd ( a year or so later) was a breeze by comparision; in and out.
The post op pain was alright, i could tolerate it, but it does take awhile to open your mouth wide again. But which would you rather deal with: enduring the pain for months or getting it over and done with in a matter of weeks?
However, my friend is a different story. He's doing what you doing; all 4 taken out and put to sleep. He was so puffed up, he looked like a chipmunk and wouldnt stop moaning about the pain and how he couldnt eat MacDees...
Im just thinking now; maybe it is better to have local anasth, cos then the pain post op isnt as bad as the pain in op, so you sorta used to it, but then again, i only had mine pulled out one at a time, so i cant say about having all 4 done...

Well, I had to to have all four of mine surgically cut out, rather than just pulled so yours will probably be *much* easier than mine.
That said, I was put to sleep for it too. I wasn't able to eat anything solid that day... or the next. The dentist gave me some lovely painkillers and I blissfully slept most of the first day away. After that, all I had to do was be careful where I chewed and down a few Tylenols. Like I said though, yours will no doubt be easier because I had to watch out for my stiches for a while!
Oh, and when you brush in the days afterward, be very careful not to accidentally gouge where your wisdom teeth used to be. It only took one bristle to make me yell a word that I really shouldn't have said in front of my kids. In truth, that hurt worse than anything the dentist did.
I'm a complete wimp with no pain tolerance whatsoever. If I did it, I know you can!

depends on the impaction of the teeth! mine were very impacted so they had to dig around therefore i was very sore and swollen after fir days. i looked like a chipmonk with my cheeks so swollen! My hubby made fun of me!
