Does getting a Novocaine Shot at the dentist hurt?!

Question:

Does getting a Novocaine Shot at the dentist hurt?

I am going Friday morning to get 2 fillings on my teeth. (They are just small cavities) I have gotten fillings before but they always used laughing gas or something else when I was little. **Im 12 now** Im a little bit scared at the thought of a Novocaine shot...Does it hurt? And about how long does it last? Please help me..Im really nervous and a lil scared..

Answers:

The dentist will put a numbing gel on the spot first so it will not hurt (unless your gums are sore). Then your mouth will get numb and you won't feel the dentist filling your teeth. It's really a lot easier now and my dentist uses a quick acting Novocaine so I don't have to sit in the chair forever waiting to get numb.
I suggest you bring along an MP3 player if your dentist allows it, so you can listen to music while he is filling the teeth. Before you know it, you'll be done!

Best wishes, hon, and you will be fine!
