Replacing a Filling?!

Question:

Replacing a Filling?

I am very sensitive where I had a large metal/silver filling put in a little over 2-years ago. I am going to my dentist today and will have them take a look at it. If it does need replacing, what is the procedure? Is it worse than having the initial filling put in?

Results: My filling is leaking. The original filling is so large that they might have to do a crown.

Answers:

If it is only going to be "replaced" it will be basically the same procedure as before, except your dentist will probably want to place a bonded composite restoration (if this is very large) instead of another amalgam or silver filling. If the sensitivity has been severe he may want to place a sedative or medicated temporary restoration to see if the tooth will settle down. You will have nothing to worry about, you'll be numbed prior to the procedure and your dentist will explain everything to you before hand. Good luck with your procedure and I hope I've been of some help.
